If you have followed us for a while or are new to YAAHA, you may have noticed that something is different about us. We are proud to bring you the stories of cooperation and collaboration from the individuals, black and white, who made America great. We don’t shy away from telling any story, whether it’s the good, the bad, or the ugly; however, the outstanding accomplishments of Black individuals and their contributions are not told enough.
In 2018, we became a 501(c)(3) organization with a passion for sharing and telling stories of great significance. Our vision is “we educate to bring people together in cooperation so that race will never be a limiting factor in any human interactions.” So, our mission is “we provide a wealth of resources illustrating the ingenuity of African Americans throughout every facet of American life. We convey the impact of Black contributions with the cooperation of others on our nation’s history.”
In our passion for sharing the cooperation of individuals, we have developed a fully customizable scavenger hunt that brings people together in an engaging, meaningful, and interactive way.
As an example, Thomas Garrett, a white abolitionist from Wilmington, Delaware, and Harriet Tubman worked hand in hand to rescue the enslaved from slavery. Garrett supplied Tubman, who saved more than 70 people, with shelter, food, clothing, and money from abolitionists across the country. Garrett is credited with saving 2,700 runaways while risking his life. A $10,000 bounty was on his head. This statue in Wilmington, Delaware, is located at the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, dedicated in 2017.
We are proud to share with you the stories of cooperation and collaboration from the many individuals who helped make America great, as part of our American History Scavenger Hunt.
