What we did isn’t so unusual. Research and you will find these heroes, too, but we did put them together in a book to draw attention and possibly enlighten all those who never knew these admirable people. The heroes in this book are just a small portion of what we could have included.
I worked with minority children in an after-school program, and I can tell you that most children appreciated knowing about these heroes. We have often been asked why this information is not taught in schools. It could be time constraint, omission by design, or lack of knowledge of the subject matter. YAAHA has long believed that Black history is American history. These heroes can easily be included while teaching American history, and perhaps we can do away with Black History Month and teach this history throughout the year. Without these heroes, our children will not know the complete history of this nation. Please help us and become part of the solution by sharing these stories and the heroes who contributed so much to America.
